Rocky Mountain Section AWWA in collaboration with the Colorado Chapter of APWA (American Public Works Association) presents:

“The Four Pillars of a Sustainable Workforce:
Recruiting, Retention, Competency, and Partnerships”

Two half-day sessions on back-to-back days.  November 9 and 10, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Mountain Time

Affordable registration fee: $50 for AWWA members; $60 for Non-members

This symposium was developed and facilitated by the RMSAWWA Utility Management Committee, including co-chair Cindy Goodburn, who is also the chair of the national AWWA Workforce Strategies Committee, and Richard Gerstberger, long-time instructor for the Leadership and Supervisory Certificate Program that has trained more than 400 managers and supervisors since 2012. 

This effort is also part of a nationwide effort to address the challenges of sustaining our water sector workforce and linked to US EPA’s recently released Sustainable Water Workforce Initiative. 

This critical and timely event will feature presentations from utility managers, human resource professionals, and education/training specialists from water sector and public works organizations, There will be interactive panel discussions, small group discussions, and a chance to provide input to the development of a live/in person “convening” on the same topics, scheduled for Spring 2022.

Highlights of the program/learning objectives include:

  • Drivers for nationwide initiative spearheaded by USEPA's Sustainability Program;
  • Recruiting and retention challenges experienced by utilities and public works organizations,and successful strategies deployed in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico;
  • Case examples of effective training and professional development, including internships, apprenticeships, and on-site programs; and
  • Presentation and discussion on the “power of partnerships” and how sector organizations can benefit from improved relationships both inside your organization and across the communities you serve.
