Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority ABSTRACT:
The San Juan Chama (SJC) Surface Water Treatment Plant started producing treated surface water in January of 2009. To date, the plant has produced 207.6 billion gallons of potable water thereby reducing sole reliance on groundwater as the source of supply and allowing the aquifer underlying the Albuquerque service area to begin to recover. Treated surface water is pumped to the East and West sides of Albuquerque via two pump stations and a 50 mile long network of large diameter transmission lines that terminate at seven Reservoir Connection sites (4 on the East Side and 3 on the West Side) where surface water, a combination of surface and groundwater or solely groundwater is introduced into the potable storage and distribution system. This presentation will describe the primary Transmission System and Reservoir Connections components, summarize lessons learned over the past 13 years of operation and illustrate typical system operations. SPEAKER BIOGRAPY:
German X. Andrade, PE is the Chief Engineer Plant Groundwater Operations for the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority. He is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Authority’s high capacity production wells, disinfection systems, pump stations, the SJC Reservoir Connections System and the SCADA Control Center. Mr. Andrade previously worked for Leedshill - Herkenhoff and its subsequent companies as a Water Systems Engineer for 21 years, specializing in hydraulic modeling and water system master planning, and the design and construction management of wells, disinfection facilities, pump stations, reservoirs and transmission/distribution systems. He was one of five consulting engineers responsible for the design of the San Juan Chama project. Mr. Andrade graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1989 with a degree in Civil Engineering and the University of Alaska Juneau in 1986 with a degree in Marine Technology. He has a passion for water systems engineering, snow sports and single-track trail riding. REGISTRATION:
Membership in AWWA or WEF is not required. All attendees must pre-register for this webinar by Tuesday evening, 1/17/22 at 5:00 p.m. This is required to maintain a record of those attending to satisfy training requirements for PE licensure or Water/Wastewater Operator Certification. Operators will be asked for NM Operator Certification number on the online registration form. Continuing Education is only available in New Mexico.
FEBRUARY WEBINAR:
