The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in source waters leads to their presence in finished drinking water and in drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) residuals. Proposed designation of PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances raises concerns of elevated concentrations of PFAS in DWTP residuals. The susceptibility of residuals to exceed PFAS regulatory thresholds was investigated as part of AWWA WITAF 078 along with the projected financial implications. This presentation will focus on PFAS contamination in DWTP residuals and their fate in residuals management to analyze residuals management cost as a function of PFAS separation efficiency, generation rates, and potential regulatory actions restricting their disposal. SPEAKER BIOGRAPY: Conner has been an engineer with Hazen and Sawyer where for the past 2.5 years, his work has focused on all things PFAS. Conner received his BS in Environmental Engineering from NC State, MS and PhD from Colorado School of Mines where he focused on the application of conventional and novel adsorbents for PFAS treatment. His current work focuses on PFAS destruction and PFAS treatment in wastewater treatment schemes. REGISTRATION:
Membership in AWWA or WEF is not required. All attendees must pre-register for this webinar by Tuesday evening, 11/14/23 at 5:00 p.m. This is required to maintain a record of those attending to satisfy training requirements for PE licensure or Water/Wastewater Operator Certification. Operators will be asked for NM Operator Certification number on the online registration form. Continuing Education is only available in New Mexico.
UPCOMING EVENT: No Webinar for December 2023. Please join us for our first webinar of 2024 on January 17th!
