Workshop:  Understanding Disinfection Requirements, including how to conduct a tracer study, interpret the results and apply to your utility

Date:  Tuesday August 8, 2017  (8am – 4pm)

Location: Mesa Water Treatment Plant – 24 person workshop

Committee:  Water Treatment

If you’ve ever wondered the following, this training is for you!

·       Why do we disinfect the water and what is the best way to disinfect?

·       What variables effect disinfection the most?

o   Chlorine Residual

o   Seasonal conditions (temperature, pH)

o   Disinfectant type

o   Hydraulics/Tank Baffling

·       How do you run a tracer study at your plant?

·       How can I increase my contact time?

Description: This workshop gives the operator of a surface water treatment plant the background and practical experience to understand the disinfection process and what really effects disinfection. This course focuses on the operator-controlled variables in disinfection (flow, tank levels, chlorine residuals) as well as teaches operators how to characterize their current facility and simple ways to increase disinfectant contact time.

Learning Outcomes:

·       Understand how to disinfect the water

·       Recognize which variables effect disinfection and their relative impact on efficacy

o   Chlorine Residual

o   Seasonal conditions (temperature, pH)

o   Disinfectant type

o   Hydraulics/Tank Baffling

·       Practice running a tracer study

·       Apply tracer results and industry practice to increase your disinfectant contact time.

Who should attend?

Operators and utility management from surface water systems.

Registration:

*Note: Registration is limited to 24 participants and operators will be given preference if the workshop sells out. Please note that once your registration is confirmed, a separate e-mail will be sent out with additional information needed for the workshop.
